For those of you not going shopping on Black Friday, today is also a noteworthy day in that it’s the final Friday of November. We’re days away from the embargo on The Post lifting (I’ve seen it but can’t say anything yet), while Phantom Thread is about to screen for the first time this weekend. Then, it’ll just be The Greatest Showman and Star Wars: The Last Jedi among unseen question marks this season. As such, now is a great time for new Academy Award predictions. Seven Christopher Nolan films hit 4K Ultra HD this December

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced that seven acclaimed films from director Christopher Nolan will be available for the first time on 4K Ultra HD on December 18th in Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Dunkirk, The Prestige and Interstellar.

“4K Ultra HD with Hdr is an incredibly exciting new home video format that allows a much closer recreation of viewing the original film print,” said Christopher Nolan. “The deeper colour palette comes closer to matching the analogue colours of film and we’ve restored the original theatrical mixes for this release. If you can’t rewatch these films in the theater, this is the best experience you can have in your own home.”

Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk Movie Back In Theaters December 1

Warner Bros. Pictures is giving moviegoers a final opportunity to see Christopher Nolan’s sweeping epic “Dunkirk” on the big screen.

On December 1, 2017, the film will be re-released in a select limited engagement in 50 IMAX® and 70mm locations in 34 domestic markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto, among others.

Following, on January 24, the film’s re-release will be expanded to include more than 250 additional locations. Sue Kroll, President Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures stated, “With ‘Dunkirk,’ Christopher Nolan broke new ground in the use of large-format cameras to create a theatrical event that demands to be seen on the largest possible canvas. As we head into the holiday season, we are excited to offer audiences another opportunity to be swept up in this truly immersive moviegoing experience…whether for the first time or again.”

Christopher Nolan Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray Collection Announced, Includes The Dark Knight Trilogy

Although many superhero movies have graced the silver screen since The Dark Knight Trilogy concluded its run back in 2012, it could be argued that very few to follow have laid claim to having the same cultural impact or have garnered as much praise. Really, in addition to Batman Begins being the film that put the reboot concept on the map, it, and the trilogy as a whole, showed that comic book flicks were capable of doing much more than just selling toys – they could tell stories as rich and as layered as what can be found in the source material itself.

Of course, much of the credit goes to the man who oversaw the whole thing, that being director Christopher Nolan. Sure, there are probably other auteurs in Hollywood who are also fans of the Caped Crusader, but it took the right filmmaker at the right time to breathe new life into the genre.

Craig Roberts cast in Tolkien biopic

Variety is reporting that Submarine and Red Oaks star Craig Roberts has become the latest addition to the cast of Tolkien, the upcoming J.R.R. Tolkien biopic starring Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Apocalypse) as The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings author.

Roberts is set to play Sam, a soldier who serves with Tolkien during The Great War. He joins a cast that also includes Lily Collins (To the Bone), Colm Meaney (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) and Tom Glynn-Carney (Dunkirk), while Dome Karukoski (Tom of Finland) directs.

Tolkien will explore the legendary author’s formative years at school as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a fellow group of outcasts prior to the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear their ‘fellowship’ apart.

Roberts is currently starring in the third and final season of Amazon’s Red Oaks, and will next be seen in the historical drama The Current War.

Sarah Paulson cast in The Goldfinch adaptation

Actress Sarah Paulson has been cast in the adaptation of The Goldfinch.

Variety reports that Paulson, after finishing up her work on American Horror Story for the season, will be looking to keep her busy schedule going by joining the cast of The Goldfinch.

The acclaimed book by Donna Tartt is being adapted by Warner Bros. and Amazon Studios with Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver) on board to play Theo, Aneurin Barnard (Dunkirk) to play Boris, and with John Crowley directing.

The Goldfinch tells the story of Theodore Decker who, after surviving a terrorist bombing at an art museum, with his mother being killed, goes on an adventure that sees him involved in art forgeries and living with his deadbeat father in Las Vegas.

Paulson will play the character Xandra, who is the girlfriend of Theo’s father.
