Storyline

ANTHROPOID is based on the extraordinary true story of Operation Anthropoid, the World War II mission to assassinate SS General Reinhard Heydrich. The Reich's third in command after Hitler and Himmler, Heydrich was the main architect behind the Final Solution and the leader of occupying Nazi forces in Czechoslovakia whose reign of terror prompted self-exiled Czech and Slovak soldiers (Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan) to hatch a top-secret mission that would change the face of Europe forever.i Written by Bleecker Street

Goofs

When they first arrive in Czechoslovakia, Jan and Josef attend a New Year's party with Marie and Lenka. When they attempt to carry out their assassination plot four months later, they are all in light outerwear. While a warm day in April certainly is possible, the trees and shrubs in the background along the street are in full bloom -- well past what might be expected at the end of April in Prague. The European city at the same latitude as New York is Madrid. Prague is 10 degrees further north (approximately 700 miles). The trees should still be bare, as they are just starting to bloom in New York at the end of April. See more »

The needle in the haystack!
11 August 2016 | by See all my reviews

Of late, I have been fortunate to watch quite a few screenings and new releases. Most have been disappointing and I would not recommend anyone pay money to see them. Some were so bad I would not recommend anyone waste their time if/when it comes out for free on cable. While I have not reviewed any of those (yet), I wanted to give a massive shout out to Anthropoid. It was absolutely fantastic. Very well done. A historical piece based on actual events. An eye opening account of what went on in Czechoslovakia during the period of Nazi rule. Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan were superb! Highly recommend seeing it in theatres.
