Trivia

Katherine Hale tells Ava a joke about Bill and Hillary Clinton. Katherine is played by Arkansas native Mary Steenburgen, who in her real life has been friendly with the Clintons since the early 1980s, when Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas. See more »

Goofs

A cell phone ringing is shown as detonating the explosives. While radio frequencies can detonate explosives, cell phones when on are constantly transmitting radio frequencies to towers (cells). They actually transmit using more power if they cannot contact a tower, such as inside a building where the scene was set, so the ringing was irrelevant. See more »

Quotes

Raylan Givens: You were so hot to start a feud with me that had long since ended, you sold your ancestral land to Loretta McCready.

Justifiably fantastic
7 July 2017 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

On the one hand, 'The Trash and the Snake' feels like one of Justified's lower-key episode, but there's a lot of moving parts to this.

• Jake Busey, making the most of a short-live guest shot

• Art reappearing for a heavyweight heart-to-heart with Raylan

• Dickie Bennett and Loretta McCready blowing back in (and put to good use)

• Expanded use of Mary Steenburgen who commands a great deal of this episode as the next person in line to use Ava to her advantage; the latter of whom now pulled in even more directions.

All of this, with assured writing and direction make for an amazing hour of TV.
