The Tao of Nicolas Cage: Gone in 60 Seconds

14 April 2017 3:51 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Before Dom was flexing his muscles Cage was getting fast and furious in order to protect his family.

This weekend movie theaters are going to be packed with hordes of people eager to check out The Fate of the Furious, the 8th film in the unexpectedly super popular Fast and Furious franchise. And that’s all fine and well. I enjoy the films; they’re dumb, stupid, exciting fun. Nothing wrong with that whatsoever, but we must remember that a year before Dom and his crew ripped off Point Break, the legendary Nicolas Cage was snatching up cars left and right and doing so in under 60 seconds.

Of course I’m going to talk about Gone in 60 Seconds.

Cage stars as the Memphis Raines, a notorious car thief that retired a number of years back in an effort to go straight. And he does. Memphis is working at a little go-kart track for kids, teaching »

Producer Bill Mechanic and star Luke Bracey on making 'Hacksaw Ridge'

29 January 2017 8:13 PM, PST | IF.com.au | See recent IF.com.au news »

It was third time lucky when Mel Gibson signed on to Hacksaw Ridge in 2014, having been offered the film by producer Bill Mechanic twice before.

.I approached Mel in 2002, in 2010, and then again in 2014, which is the first time he said yes,. says Mechanic..

.He's the only one I approached twice. I guess in my mind he was always the perfect director for it. I just had to get it in his mind that he was the perfect director for it..

Before his third attempt, Mechanic brought on Randall Wallace, who wrote Braveheart, to take a pass at the script.

.Randall's changes were not earth shattering,. says Mechanic. .He won't be credited in the final screenplay. But I think it might have made it more appealing to Mel to read [that] Randy was working on it..

The Weekend Warrior 1/27/17: Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, A Dog’s Purpose, Gold

25 January 2017 9:00 AM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.

This Past Weekend:

As per my Thursday update, M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller Split ended up winning the weekend but with way more than anyone, including myself, predicted, with more than $40 million for its opening weekend. That’s pretty impressive, and his first movie to open at that level since 2010’s The Last Airbender. Meanwhile, Vin Diesel’s sequel xXx: The Return of Xander Cage ended up making around where I predicted, taking second place with $20.1 million, not a great sign for the continuation of that franchise. Michael Keaton’s The Founder ended up right around where I predicted with $3.4 million, ending up just outside the Top 10. Hidden Figures, La La Land and Sing continued to do well with minimal drop-offs.

Hacksaw Ridge review: “Heart-poundingly intense, but altogether outstanding”

24 January 2017 8:28 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Hacksaw Ridge review: Andrew Garfield plays WWII hero Desmond Doss in this thrilling, impactful effort from director Mel Gibson.

Read our Hacksaw Ridge review below. The film opens across the UK on January 26th, 2017.

Mel Gibson hasn’t directed a film since 2006. That movie was the impressive Apocalypto, a film not in the English language that secured a tad over $120 million at the worldwide box-office, from a reported $40 million budget. The years that followed were not particularly kind to Gibson, both personally and, as as result, professionally. Now clear of his demons with Hollywood starting to welcome him in again – plus an acting career that is also looking on the up following last year’s impressive Blood Father, Gibson has delivered possibly his best directorial effort yet, the World War II drama Hacksaw Ridge.

‘Ridge’ revolves around the real-life character Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield), a young twenty-something intent on helping his country during WWII. »

Rapid Round: Edgar Ramirez on McConaughey’s 'Gold' Diet and Netflix's Groundbreaking 'Bright' (Q&A)

19 January 2017 6:00 AM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Edgar Ramirez calls himself "the hunky geologist" in Gold, the Weinstein Co. mining drama in which he teams with Matthew McConaughey to excavate the jungles of Indonesia for the titular metal.

But long before he played the mysterious therapist in The Girl on the Train, the boxing legend in Hands of Stone or the risky thrill-seeker in Point Break, the Venezuelan actor pursued political journalism and hoped to become a diplomat. Though he has no regrets — "I have an amazing platform as an actor to try to help as much as I can," he said — politics remains »
