It's Awful But So Insane That You Have to Enjoy It
Mafia Girls (1969)
** 1/2 (out of 4)
Various undercover FBI agents are found brutally murdered and this doesn't sit well with the agency. They want to find out who was behind it and that leads them to a gangster in Florida whose once chance at being brought down might be due to someone close to him.
MAFIA GIRLS is a film that would be forgotten and probably lost if it weren't for the efforts of Something Weird Video. You can now view this film thanks to them and it's certainly worth checking out if you're a fan of the weird. This film here was shot in Miami by a director credited as Ed Ross, although it very well could be a made up name. His only credit was this film and if it really was the only movie he made it's easy to see why.
If you want to be serious about this film then there's no question that it's among the worst made that you'll ever see. There's really not a single thing "good" in this picture. The acting is beyond atrocious as is the extremely poor dubbing. The story rarely makes too much sense and seems to change course with each new scene. The direction is all over the place. It's clearly amateur night with the entire production and even stranger is the fact that they have lounge acts as well as strippers yet the film is edited in a way to prevent any nudity. This really is a G-rated picture aimed at adults!
What makes this film so entertaining is the fact that it's so bad. You really can laugh at some of the awful dubbing and I must say that the editing is probably my favorite bad thing here. There's some Herschell Gordon Lewis type of gore thrown into a couple scenes and the editing is just so poor that you can't help but laugh. The entire film just comes across as something incredibly cheap and made by people who had no idea of what they were doing and this is why the film is entertaining.
