(Spoilers ahead for the season 8 premiere of AMC’s “The Walking Dead”) It’s only been a year since “The Walking Dead” hit its emotional nadir when it made us watch Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) beat two fan favorite characters to death with a baseball bat — not to mention the rest of that hour of television that consisted almost entirely of Negan trying to psychologically break Rick (Andrew Lincoln).
